Normally I see Joan at the annual NCTR conference each October. I am very sorry to learn of her passing. She was a wonderful colleague and was very insightful, a leader in our teacher pension business. I always enjoyed meeting with Joan. I will miss her. Condolences to her family. Joan Schloss believed in me. She not only gave me a chance when I applied to work for MTRS, she believed that I could transition from being a lawyer to an HR Director. Joan offered me a whole new career path and I will forever be indebted to her. However, my favorite memories of Joan will be just sitting in her office during our weekly one on one meetings and just chatting about books, movies and TV shows (especially Game of Thrones!). She always asked about my kids and family. She had such a big heart and will forever be missed.
