It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Felix R. Figueroa, affectionately known as "Cayey", who journeyed from this life on January 31, 2024. Born in Cidra, Puerto Rico, on January 26, 1939, Felix brought with him to the world an irresistible charm that was distinctly his own. He was a charismatic and ambitious individual who epitomized resilience, strength, and dedication. He was an avid animal lover and cared for animals, especially dogs, as family. Felix was known for his witty sense of humor, always ready with a funny line or a story to lighten the mood. His generosity knew no bounds; he was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need.
The owner of Figueroa Enterprise Inc., a Beer and Wine Grocery Store in Roxbury, Massachusetts, Felix poured his heart and soul into his business for 46 years. He was not merely a businessperson but a pillar of his community, recognized for his exemplary dedication to the City of Boston. His extraordinary efforts culminated in a certificate of recognition from the late Mayor Thomas M. Menino during the 8th Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration. Beyond his business, Felix was an ardent lover of authentic Puerto Rican cuisine and enjoyed teaching others the art of flavor. Despite his debatable gardening methods, it never deterred him from growing his favorite root vegetables how he wanted. His farm in Puerto Rico blossomed with the sweetest passion fruits, dark green plantains, yautia, squash, and bananas, which was possible due to his hard work and dedication.
Preceded in death by his parents, Felix Figueroa Nunez and Rosa Morales Caraballo, Felix leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. His legacy will be carried on by his son Felix R. Figueroa Jr. and his daughters, Janet Figueroa-Petty, Daeanne Figueroa-Salazar, Linda Figueroa, Diana I. FPerez, late son Felix Eliezer Figueroa, and 17 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is survived by his brothers Artemio, Gumercindo, sisters Anahilda and Eugenia and late siblings Julia, Maria, Epifanio, Editrudis, Ramon, and Edilberto. In the words of the Holy Bible, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." (Matthew 5:4). As we grieve his passing, we take solace in the comfort provided by our faith, and in the memories of his laughter, his drive, and his unwavering love.
