Maureen Gail (Murphy) Leydon

June 18, 1955 — September 25, 2023

Lynnfield

Leydon, Maureen Gail (Murphy) Maureen (Mo), 68, passed away peacefully on September 25 th , 2023 surrounded by her loving family and her extended hospital family of Phillips House 22 at Massachusetts General Hospital after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Maureen was born on June 18, 1955 in Rockville, CT. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert Murphy and Mary Frances (Parker) Murphy, and her aunt, Sister Marita Charles RSM. She is survived by her loving husband Joseph (Joe), her sons Michael (Emily) and Jonathan (Alexandra) and her two precious grandchildren Cooper and Sophie Mae. She is also survived by her sister Marita (Michael), her brothers Robert (Susan) and John (Joni), her many nieces and nephews who loved their Auntie Mo dearly, as well as her sister-in-law Mary Connor. Mary was with Maureen and Joe every step of the way during this battle with cancer; she has been an amazing and loving support to everyone.

Maureen was a scholar throughout her educational career. She graduated from Pope John XXIII High School in Everett, MA and received her BS from Brown University in RI, where she was a member of the swim team. She had a great experience competing in the MA Miss Teen Pageant where she placed 1st runner up. Her beauty was only outmatched by her intelligence.

Maureen and Joe were married on October 24, 1981 in Rockville, CT following a three-year relationship that began in New Hampshire. It was a shared love of skiing, boating, golfing and spending time with family and friends that provided the foundation for a wonderful 42 years of marriage. Maureen spent 40 years of her working career in the insurance industry working at New England Financial and MetLife. Her many friends and professional colleagues have provided the family with kindness, love, and support.

Maureen’s greatest accomplishment in life was her family. She and Joe raised two sons, Michael and Jonathan, in Lynnfield, MA. Their home was always full of love and celebration. One of Maureen’s greatest joys was the time she and Joe spent babysitting their grandson Cooper full time for over a year during COVID.

We would like to thank her team of doctors, nurses, and staff atMassachusetts General Hospital. Everyone gave 110% in their care of Maureen throughout her long fight with cancer.

Memorial Visitation will be held at the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home 128 Revere St, Revere on Thursday October 5th from 4-8 pm.
