Candido Diaz-Serrano

Candido Diaz Serrano, 85, of Chelsea, MA, bid this world a fond farewell at the Jewish Nursing Home to embrace his heavenly family on August 9, 2023. Candido Diaz Serrano was born in the countryside of San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico on June 6, 1938 to parents Laura Serrano and Ramon Diaz. He was one of 5 children. He left Puerto Rico and traveled to New York City in the 1960s searching for a better life and what he found was love. He met and married the woman who would forever steal his heart, Ms. Mariana (Lucy) Rodriguez Guitierrez. Candido and Lucy had three beautiful, fearless, young daughters. Magalis (aka Maggie), Jacqueline (aka Jacqui) and Diane (DiDi). They left NYC and moved to Philadelphia, PA where they purchased their 1st home. Candido, through the good and the bad times, the love he had for his family was evident. He enjoyed life, enjoyed sitting and watching the New York Mets while sipping on a nice cold beer. As the years went by the family grew. The sounds of laughter and music at family gatherings that ended with a great game of dominoes and the almighty "Capicu". All wondering who just won the game and if it matters. What mattered the most was la Familia. As a family we come together to celebrate Candido's life alongside those he leaves behind; his beloved daughter, Jaqueline and husband Don Ward, his grandchildren, Maggie's daughters, Jessica, Jasmine (Monique), and Jennifer (China) Montalvo. Jacqui's and Candido's one and only grandson Juan Steven and wife Brenda Sanchez. DiDi's daughters, Melanie and (dec. husband) JP Pena, Laura and Raquel Felix. The legacy of Candido continues through the blessings of his 24 Great Grandchildren: Nathaniel, Jesse, Santo, Ezekiel, Daysha, Johnny, Danny, Dyanna, Sole, Santos, Sanea, (dec. Devon & Mathew), Madison, Micaela, Mackenzie, AJ, Aliviah, Noah, Jonah, Lilah, Zi, Zoey and the youngest being Camilia. Candido's love was reflected in the laughter he shared when his family would come for a visit at the nursing home. Cheerful moments had by grand "Pops". Oh and let's not forget the sweet tooth he had and the obsession of those little lollipops "dum dums" of which he would stash in places only he knew and shared with only those he loved. Life wasn't always easy for Candido, and when he had his stroke his eldest daughter Maggie (now deceased) became his primary caretaker but once she passed away his oldest granddaughter Jessica took on the task of caring for her grandfather and did so with grace. Jesse, Jasmine and Jennifer along with their families would take turns in stopping by to check in on their grandfather and in these last few months as the time of parting this world they would take turns in making sure Candido was never alone for too long. The laughter, fist pumps along with his infamous phrases such as "Aqui-Aqui", "Thoy Bien" and "Chacho Meng" will forever be a part of the lives he touched and will bring his presence along with all of us as the days go forward. He left this world quietly but there is a party in heaven, dancing upon the clouds and reunited with wife Lucy, daughters (Maggie and Diane) along with his siblings. Now shining down upon us thankful for the love shared. Rest in the embrace of the heavenly father Candido, our "Caps" off to you. If you know, you knew that one of Candido's special fashion statements was wearing a crisp new cap, representing either his favorite sports team or his isla del encanto, or given to him with love, he wore them with pride. Candido has gone home now. Rejoice and be glad for the chains are free and his pain is no more. A visitation will be held at the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home 128 Revere St, Revere on Saturday August 19th from 10:00-11:00 am. Followed by a Prayer Service at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery
