Caturano, Elena A. (Ferrelli) after a brave battle with cancer, on December 31, 2014, at the age of 83. Elena leaves behind a large and loving family. Elena was born on October 24, 1931 in Prezza, Italy, to father Pasquale Ferrelli and mother Nunziata (Gentile), who predeceased her. She came to America in 1939 at the age of 8 to begin a new life with her parents and older sister Elizabeth. The family settled in Burlington, VT, where she welcomed her youngest sister Mary. They relocated to Somerville, MA where they were raised. Elena married her beloved, the late Joseph James Caturano on December 9, 1951. Elena was the Caturano family matriarch, a kind and loving soul who always made everyone feel special. She carried herself with the utmost poise, grace and dignity. Elena was a wonderful cook and avid shopper. She worked as a house wife and official family babysitter throughout her years. Elena especially loved to be involved in the lives of all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was famous for her eggplant parmigiana, pizzelles, home-made pasta and chicken cutlets. Elena loved passing on her love of cooking and family traditions to her family. When diagnosed with cancer in January 2014, she remained dedicated to her family and in her will to fight her illness. Her wonderful sense of humor and funny stories will be remembered by all! Elena is survived by her son Richard Caturano and wife Barbara of Gloucester, MA; and daughters Marianne (Caturano) Picardi and husband Robert of North Andover; Nancy (Caturano) Sutcliffe and her husband John of Revere; and Donna Caturano Kish and husband Robert of Salem, NH; grandchildren Anthony Caturano, Christina Caturano, Courtney (Picardi) Coughlin, Robert Picardi, Jr., Anthony Picardi, Phillip Picardi, John Picardi, Michael Sutcliffe, Joseph Sutcliffe, Trevor Kish and Victoria Kish; great grandchildren Rhys, Chase, Camden and Andrew; sisters Elizabeth Arancio and Mary Ferrelli; brother in-law Frank and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral from the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home 128 Revere St Revere on Monday, January 5 at 8:00 am. Funeral mass in St Mary of the Assumption Church at 9:00 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 4 – 7 pm. The family would especially like to thank Care Dimensions and their incredible hospice workers and staff.
