Ignatius "Sonny" Labella

May 9, 1930 — October 15, 2022

On Saturday, October 15, Ignatius "Sonny" LaBella passed away peacefully at The Chelsea's Soldier's Home in Chelsea, MA. Born in Everett, MA, he was the son of the late Lucy (Dimino) and Anthony LaBella. Predeceased by his brother, Anthony LaBella and sister, Sister Mary Rose LaBella. He leaves behind his sisters, Jacqueline Hazel of Revere and Angela Baratta and husband Ronald Baratta of Everett and his many nieces and nephews. Sonny attended BC High and was in his first year at Boston College when he was drafted for the Korean War. He was honorably discharged and began a 25 year career with the US Post Office as a clerk. Sonny loved the simple life. He was humble in every way. He loved learning and had many passions including reading, teaching himself languages, playing music, exercising and most importantly living his faith in Catholicism. He was steadfast in his devotion to God and always encouraged everyone he came in contact with to attend church. He loved his family very much including his beloved sister, Jackie who was his biggest advocate, friend and caretaker. Sonny was an extraordinarily kind and loving soul. Visiting hours are from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 24th at St. Michael's Chapel at The Soldiers Home in Chelsea followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
