Janet A. (Landano)Hames, devoted wife of Winters B. Hames Jr. passed away at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, New Hampshire on December 10, 2008. She was born on June 4, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts, the youngest of ten children of Louis and Genevieve Landano. In addition to her husband, Janet is survived by her daughter, Deborah Lerra and her husband Dennis of Merrimack, New Hampshire, step-sons Winters B. Hames, III and his wife Carolyn, of Narragansett, RI, Ron Hames and his wife Nancy of South Freeport, ME, John Hames of Narragansett, RI. She was a devoted grandmother to grandsons, Christopher Lerra, of Merrimack, NH and Michael Lerra of Somerville, MA. She is also survived by Winters B. Hames, IV and wife Emily of Brighton, MA, Brendan Hames and wife Kate, Seamus Hames, Sean Hames, all of Narragansett, RI., Sara Hames, Max Hames of South Freeport, ME., and one great grand daughter Elizabeth Rose Hames of Brighton, MA. Janet was predeceased by her first husband, John W. Herbert, and her sisters Clara Rocha, and Theresa DiMauro. She was also the sister of the late Gerald, Michael, and Joseph Landano. Janet leaves behind her sisters Elena Schiavone, Gloria Forte, and Dolores Breda, and their husbands, along with her brother, Alfred (Clark) Landano and sister-in-law Jeanette Landano. Janet moved to Revere, Massachusetts at a young age where she attended Revere Schools, graduating from Revere High School in 1949. She also attended classes at Suffolk University, and a Florida community college and earned many certificates of completion for special courses. She was employed by the federal governments Department of Health and Human Services. Her primary office was in Boston, but during her career she worked with representatives in Washington, and around the United States. Janet was promoted several times for her outstanding work, earning promotions and special awards including outstanding Public Health Service Employee of the Boston area in 1975. Janet lived in Moultonborough, New Hampshire on Lake Winnipesaukee. She purchased property in 1976 and spent weekends and vacations there with her husband. When she retired in 1986, she sold her home in Revere, and moved to Moultonborough on a full time basis. Janet had many passions in her life. She enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and boat riding on the lake. She was an avid golfer, playing several times weekly as a member of the Waukewan Golf Course. Janet belonged to several organizations in the Moultonborough area including the Lions Club, 50 Plus Club, Elks, Womens Club. Janet and her husband also enjoyed traveling, staying at least one night in all fifty states and many countries such as New Zealand, Australia, China, Japan, the Galapagos Islands, Peru, Columbia, many European Countries including river cruises were some of the visits made with her husband. For parts of many winters, she lived in Belleview, Florida and vacationed in Hawaii before going home to New Hampshire while the apple blossoms were in bloom. She touched many people and was well loved by all. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends Funeral from the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons - Bruno Funeral Home 128 Revere St. REVERE on Monday Dec. 15 at 9:00am. Funeral Mass in St. Anthony's Church at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours are Sunday 2-6pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framinham, Ma. 01701, Community Hospice House 210 Naticook Rd. Merrimack, NH 030540 or the Winnipesaukee Wellness Center at P O Box 189, Center Harbor, NH 03226 which she helped her husband and friend Reuben Turner get started in 1999 and provided continued to support until her death.
