Lena DeLuca of the North End of Boston died surrounded by her devoted family on September 26, 2016. She was a remarkable 101 years old and the surviving sister, sister in law, and beloved Aunt of the DeLuca family. Born and raised in Boston’s North End, Lena worked for 55 years in Filenes Basement in Boston where she was a “fixture” to customers, friends, and family. When she retired in 1993 at the age of 78, the company commemorated her service with a plaque in her name on her famous basement booth. The daughter of the late Nicola and Louisa (Vigilante) DeLuca, sister of the late Vincent DeLuca and cherished sister in law Concetta, the late Marie Bailey, and the late Emma Freni. She is survived by her beloved brother in law Dominic Freni of Revere, and nieces Darlene Forziati and her husband Jake of Saugus, Donna Ryan and companion Roger LeBlanc of Franklin, NH, Cheryl Bond and husband Ralph of Baytown, TX, Debra Lewicki and her husband Michael of Boxford, Jocelyn Coleman and her husband Mark of Wilmington, Louise Crocker and husband the late Michael Crocker of Burlington, Doreen Boyd and her husband Arthur of Bedford, Kirsten Freni of Winthrop, and two nephews the late Vincent DeLuca of Billerica, and Richard DeLuca of Bedford, and many loving and cherished great nephews and nieces. Funeral from the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home 128 Revere St, Revere on Saturday October 1st at 8:30am. Funeral Mass at St Leonard’s Church, North End, Boston at 10:30am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 8:30am to 9:30am.
