Matthew A Vieira

Vieira, Matthew A. 81, of Revere formerly of East Boston passed away peacefully Thursday March 3, 2016, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, with his family by his side following complications from surgery. He was born on March 26, 1934 in East Boston, MA, son of the late Matthew & Mary (McGowan) Vieira. Matthew was raised and educated in East Boston at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea School and East Boston High School. He was employed by Dave’s Motors and FedEx before his retirement in 1998. Matthew was a proud member of Teamster’s Local 25 (retired). During retirement, Matthew enjoyed both working and volunteering at the Revere DPW. Matthew enjoyed the outdoors. Being a resident of Revere, he spent much time on Revere Beach. Although he did not like the water, he enjoyed the many activities with his family there. Dinners at Nick’s, concerts and movies on the beach, Sand Castle Festivals, and Marissa’s favorite ice cream at the Twist and Shake. Matt was a huge Boston sports fan and enjoyed watching all kinds of events. But most of all, Matt enjoyed spending time with his family. Matthew was a volunteer at Grace Ministries Church in Saugus where he helped collect and distribute supplies for the Food Pantry. He attended many church functions and was an active member of the church community. Matthew was also an active member of the New England Hemophilia Association to help raise awareness of hemophilia. Being a hemophiliac himself, NEHA held a special place in his heart. One of his favorite activities was attending Family Camp each summer. He would drive the golf cart otherwise known as the snack cart. He enjoyed campers’ smiling faces and found comfort knowing he was a role model in helping families learn about how to live with hemophilia. Matthew is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Eleanor (Wilson); his son, David Vieira and his wife, Kathi of Medford, MA.; his daughter, Dawnmarie Reardon and her husband, Sean of Lawrence, MA; his son, Michael Vieira and his wife Jessica of McKinney, TX; his sisters, Jane Vieira and Mary Olivolo of East Boston, MA; several nieces and nephews. Matthew was blessed with seven grandchildren – Victoria, Britnee and Dean Vieira of Medford, MA; Marissa Reardon of Lawrence, MA; Madisyn Vieira of Saugus, MA; and Matthew and Emily Vieira of McKinney, TX. A Celebration of life service and reception will be held on Sunday April 10th at 3:00pm at Grace Ministries North Shore 101 Main St, Saugus,.
