Stephen J. Celona, Jr., known fondly to many as "Stevie," passed away on July 13, 2024, in his home with his long time partner Elaine Cantone by his side. He was also surrounded by his family, offering their love and support. Born in Boston, MA, on February 20, 1951, Steve's life was a testament to his loyal and loving nature, characteristics that defined his relationships and interactions with everyone he met.
Steve was a loyal Bostonian at heart, having grown up in East Boston before moving to Winthrop, where he resided for 28 years. He was a supportive pillar in his community. His work ethic was unparalleled, his commitment unwavering. Most of his professional life was with the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority as an HVAC Project Manager/Planner. Prior to his employment with the MWRA, Steve owned and operated Coastal Refrigeration, an HVAC company. Even in retirement, Steve carried the same passion and determination into his hobbies. As an avid fisherman and boating enthusiast, and a lifelong member of the Orient Heights Yacht Club, Steve found peace and joy on the water. These pursuits were often shared with his enduring partner, Elaine Cantone, with whom he cherished spending quality time. Their travels together were a source of joy and treasured memories.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Celona, and mother, Leila (Marabella) Celona. His love for his family was profound, and he was a constant source of support and guidance for them. He leaves behind his partner Elaine, her two sons Anthony and Andrew Cantone Heinze. He is also survived by his siblings, Nunzio Celona of Wakefield and Josephine Pullo of Tewksbury. Nieces Michelle Birard and Jennifer Insogna and great nieces and nephew, Jessica, Alyssa, Skylar, Jeremy, Paige, and Peyton. Steve also leaves behind extended family and many friends. A legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire those who knew him.
