Born in Vermont, at age 18 she began working at the Fessenden School in Waltham where she met her first husband, Rocco Pagliarulo. They married and moved to Chelsea to raise their family and started her longtime employment at the Chelsea Soliders Home. Later in life, she met Alfred DeAngelis, who was a fellow Moose Lodge member. They eloped to Las Vegas and settled in Fort Lauderdale. Mary hated being away from her three daughters and Alfred who loved her so much, agreed to move back to Revere so she could be closer to her girls, who in fact she was often seen walking with, laughing and enjoying life.
